Aurel Dawidiuk, born in Hanover in 2000, is quickly establishing himself as one oft the most exciting and versatile musicians of his generation.

He is a guest at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, in Pierre Boulez Saal Berlin, in Sendesaal Bremen, at the Philharmonie Essen, in Konzerthaus Dortmund, in Kulturpalast Dresden, in the Opéra national de Lorraine, in ORF Radiokulturhaus Vienna as well as in many important churches in Germany and in other European countries.

Aurel Dawidiuk has won numerous competitions for piano and organ. In 2015, he won first prize at the “International Klavierwettbewerb Jugend“ in Essen as well as a special award by the Carl Bechstein Foundation. In 2016, he received the first prize at the “Schumann Competition“ in Zwickau. This is followed by 1st prizes at “The London Organ Competition 2018“ and the “International Young Organist Competition Moscow 2019“. In the same year he won the renowned “TONALi19 Piano Competition“ in Hamburg and got also rewarded with the auditioners´-choice award, the Christoph-Eschenbach-Award as well as six other special awards. At the “Jugend musiziert“ Competition, he in total won seven times first prize on the federal level in different categories.

In August 2022 he won the "German Music Competition" (Deutscher Musikwettbewerb) in organ category, combined with the special prize of the Federal City of Bonn and an own CD production on the GENUIN label in co-production with Deutschlandfunk Kultur and the German Music Competition.

In 2023 he received first prize in the „Conducting from the Piano“ categorie as well as two special prizes and the audience prize at the International Hans von Bülow Competition in Meiningen. In the same year he was awarded the Neeme Järvi Prize of the Gstaad Conducting Academy in Switzerland and the Ernst von Schuch Conductor Prize in Dresden.

He began his musical education early on when he was six years old playing the piano and the violin. For several years, he was an activ member of the ”Knabenchor Hannover”, the renowned boys’choir of Hanover. In 2014, he was admitted as a pre-student to Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media to the piano class of Roland Krüger. In the same year, he additionally began organ studies with Martin Sander at the Detmold University of Music. His further teachers and special mentors are Gabriele Leporatti, Ulrike Adler and Hatto Beyerle.

Since 2020, Aurel Dawidiuk has been studying orchestral conducting with Johannes Schlaefli and Christoph-Mathias Mueller as well as piano with Till Fellner at the Zurich University of the Arts and is continuing his organ studies with Martin Sander at the Basel Music Academy.

In 2021 he was admitted to the “Forum Dirigieren“ of the German Music Council (Deutscher Musikrat) – a promotion program for top young conductors. He attended master classes e.g. with Paavo Järvi, Jaap van Zweden, Joana Mallwitz, Pierre-André Valade and has already conducted wellknown orchestras such as the Bern Symphony Orchestra, the Musikkollegium Winterthur, the Nürnberger Symphoniker, the Meininger Hofkapelle and the Thessaloniki City Symphony Orchestra.

The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra is pleased to announce the creation of a new associate conductorship, to be filled for the first time starting the 2024–25 season for a period of two seasons. The position was made possible by a generous donation from the Haitink family.

Following an international selection of candidates nominated by a panel of specialists, four young conductors auditioned live with the Concertgebouw Orchestra under the direction of its artistic partner Klaus Mäkelä. On the basis of these auditions, Aurel Dawidiuk was chosen as the Concertgebouw Orchestra’s very first associate conductor.

Dawidiuk will be collaborating on approximately half the concert programmes performed during the 2024–25 and the 2025–26 seasons. His duties as associate conductor will be varied, thus enabling him to forge artistic ties with the orchestra. Besides assisting leading conductors both in Amsterdam and on tour, he will work with orchestra musicians in ensemble formation and fulfil a role in the orchestra‘s talent development programme. In the latter half of the 2025–26 season, Dawidiuk will work with the orchestra for a week and conduct several subscription concerts.
